Lima - Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu - Tambopata Rainforest

Itinerary

Day 1: Lima

Arrival and transfer to the hotel of your choice.

Day 2: Lima (B)

Free day to visit and learn more about this wonderful city on your own. You will also take a pleasant drive along the Costa Verde, Lima's Ocean front, for a magnificent view of the Pacific Ocean. Return to your hostel.

Day 3: Lima - Cusco (B)

After breakfast, flight to Cuzco, reception and transfer to your hotel. Free day to relax and acclimatize to the altitude.

Day 4: Sacred Valley (B, L)

Full day to Urubamba, better known as the Sacred Valley of the Incas, Sacred Valley is generally understood to include everything between Pisac and Ollantaytambo, parallel to the Urubamba river, or Vilcanota River or Wilcamayu, as this Sacred river is called when passing through the valley, also a visit to the village of Pisac and Pisac Ruins; The village is well known for its market every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday, an event which attracts heavy tourist traffic from nearby Cuzco; Pisac Ruins are famous for the agricultural terraces, which sweep around the south and east flanks of the mountain in huge and graceful curves, almost entirely unbroken by steps, which require great maintenance to avoid erosion. Enjoy a great buffet lunch at the Alhambra Restaurant, after a visit to Ollantaytambo; which it's the best surviving example of Inca city planning, with narrow cobblestone streets that have been inhabited since the 13th century. Return to Cuzco by the traditional market of Chinchero. Accommodation at your hotel.

Day 5: Machu Picchu (B)

Early departure start by Expedition train to Aguas Calientes, a Magnificent guided visit to Macchu Picchu; which means "Old mountain" often referred to as "The Lost City of the Incas" and mentioned as "One of the Seven Wonders", this fabulous city was built around the year 1450, forgotten for centuries, the site was brought to worldwide attention in 1911 by Hiram Bingham, a North American historian. Machu Picchu was built in the classical Inca style, with polished dry stone walls. Its primary buildings are the Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, and the Room of the Three Windows. Surrounded by lush cloud forest, the citadel perches in a mist shrouded mountaintop. After the tour, free time to enjoy this spiritual wonder. A great occasion to see Wayna Picchu (Young Peak); the most famous of several short walks, or the Intipunku (Sun Gate); which its where the Inca Trail ends, both give you a magnificent view of the whole sanctuary. (Note: Wayna Picchu its open from around 7am until 1pm, and you must return by 4pm). Accommodation at your hotel.

Day 6: Machu Picchu (B)

As you know one day is not enough to explore the sanctuary in its entirety, that's why this is a great opportunity to return on your own to see the sunrise and much more (note: the first bus departs from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu at 5:30am). Return to Cuzco in the afternoon by train and transfer to your hotel.

Day 7: Cusco - Tambopata Rainforest (B, L, D)

Transfer to the airport for the flight to Puerto Maldonado. Reception and transfer to the Tambopata River harbor in Puerto Maldonado for the canoe trip to your rainforest lodge. After arrival, a complete briefing at the lodge before visiting a 35 meters scaffolding tower for a spectacular view of the river, the surrounding forest, and an opportunity to observe birds from the canopy, including parrots, toucans and macaws. Return to the lodge.

Day 8: Tambopata Rainforest (B, L, D)

Early rising at dawn, for a visit to the Tres Chimbadas oxbow lake. Here we will take a long, easy canoe ride around the lake looking for giant river otters, turtles, hoatzins, and wading birds. The giant river otters that are seen in Tres Chimbadas belong to a resident family of nine. Return to the lodge for lunch before embarking on your afternoon outing to the community's ethno botanical center. We will hike the trails around the centre with one of the residents who will explain the everyday uses of forest resources in medicine, construction, food and fiber. Return to your lodge.

Day 9: Tambopata Rainforest - Puerto Maldonado - Lima (B)

After an early breakfast, departure on our boat back to the city of Puerto Maldonado. Transfer to the airport for our return flight back to Lima and connection flight back home.
